How this was counted
Missed game: the player's team played, he logged no snaps, and he was either on an injury reserve list (IR, PUP, non-football injury) or carried a game status of Out, Doubtful or Questionable. Suspensions, COVID lists, rest days and personal absences are excluded.
Starter: QB, RB, WR and TE rank in the top 28 / 32 / 48 / 18 at the position in PPR points per game; linemen and defenders averaged at least 60% of snaps. A player qualifies from the current season (2+ games) or the previous one (8+ games), so stars hurt in Week 1 still count.
Listed injury is the body part named most often on the injury report during the absence. Players placed straight on IR often have none listed, and the label can lag the real diagnosis.
Through Week : every season is cut to the same opening weeks, and the current-season half of the starter test only sees those weeks, so earlier years are measured the way this year is.
Seasons before 2021 had 16 games; rates are per game so they compare across years. Kickers, punters and long snappers are left out.
